Story Of The Day.....nuclear power plants

Looking for a thousand volunteers to call the representatives:
March 2011 Residents Organized for a Safe Environment & Advocate Precautionary Principle & Coalition for the Reasonable and Ethical Environmental Decisions & Coalition of Alaskans for Saving our Environment:
Supports Rep Markey in his effort to close the 8 US nuclear power plants on fault lines.

• Wants to emphatically state that nuclear power is not a green alternative.
• Would like to share these facts: 1.When figuring the cost of nuclear power the government has never let us figure into the cost these factors: the cleaning up of the nuclear power plant and hauling away of contaminated materials after the closing of the power plant. 2. The cost of cleanup of a nuclear disaster. When you factor in these items nuclear power is the most expensive form of making electricity.
• Wants to phase out all 8 nuclear plants on fault lines in the US. Safety before profit!
• Supports “CREED” in asking for a reasonability review of the 1.5 billion electric rate increases.
• Is worried about the constant rebuilding and life extension of the San Onofre nuclear power plant.
• Is concerned about the constant problems with the safety program at San Onofre nuclear power plant.
• Is worried about the funding of any new nuclear power plants, we have now had three serious radiation leaks to go out onto the world (and still to be determined a problem with 6 reactors in Japan). We believe no solar or wind power plants have ever leaked radiation or polluted our world.
• Once again wants to ask the question: why should we have such an unsafe system of power (nuclear), when we have such clean sources as solar, thermal solar, wind?
• Wonders why in Sweden and France they have a safety filtration system if the power plant vents steam from its reactors, and the US nuclear regulatory commission & Japan decided against this final safety system, putting cost before safety?
• Is concerned that the San Onofre nuclear power plant is only designed for a magnitude 6.8 earthquake.
• Is worried that 23 US nuclear power plants are the same design (General Electric) as the 6 reactors that are melting down in Japan as we speak.
• San Onofre power plant has been leaking tritium for over 30 years (as have many other plants) into the ocean where you surf! Tritium is a radioactive isotope that bonds to the H2O molecule. Without a public report ever being made.
• Please join us in the big push to close the 8 US nuclear plants on fault lines. It is now time that we all stand up and be warriors for the Earth Mother if we want to leave the next seven generations a place to live.
• Wants to remove loan guarantees for nuclear power plants from the federal budget, and put back in loan guarantees for wind and solar.
• Is concerned about the 145 million pounds of nuclear waste in USA alone.
• Please call your Senators and Representatives and demand action. Close down the 8 US nuclear plants on fault lines.

Word's for the Day 3/3/2011

"The dance is strong magic.
The dance is a spirit.
It turns the body to liquid steel.
It makes it vibrate like a guitar.
The body can fly without wings.
...It can sing without voice.
The dance is strong magic.
The dance is life."
~Pearl Primus
